Raheenleagh is a wind energy project owned in equal partnership Coillte and ESB, which is located approximately 8 km west of Arklow within the Raheenleagh forest, Ballinvalley, Co.Wicklow. The wind farm became operational on the 20th September 2016.
Raheenleagh has an installed capacity of 35.2MW and will generate enough energy to power 22,500 homes per annum.
The wind farm which was granted planning permission in 2012 involved the construction of:
- 11 Siemens (108 – DD – 3.2MW) turbines.
- 2 anemometer masts.
- 1 electrical substation and associated infrastructure.
- 16km underground cable from the site at Croghan Mountain to Arklow substation.
